Pete Cerneaz

Brief introduction

Peter Cerneaz is a Sydney-based artist whose practice spans painting, drawing, sculpture and poetry. Across more than three decades, his work explores the relationship between the physical world and inner life.

His paintings move between observation and abstraction, often drawing on geometry, pattern, nature and the human figure. His drawings capture atmosphere, gesture and everyday experience, while his sculptures combine material, structure and symbolism.

Poetry extends these ideas into language, exploring emotion, relationships, solitude, generosity and the contradictions of ordinary life.

Across each medium, Cerneaz is interested in the tension between order and disorder, thought and feeling, beauty and unease.
